Trinidad interior designer Lynn Smith would like to get the word out. You don't need to settle for someone else's ideas in your own home. When you choose an interior designer, you can still control your destiny.
"A designer who truly understands the role will never replace the client's vision with their own. The stereotypical designer of the movies does exist; there are those clients who will find Franz sweeping into their living room, saying, "This will never work!" and throwing out grandpa's favorite armchair. I respect and nurture the client's vision. After all, it is their home. My challenge is to make it as comforting and inviting as possible."

Often, the last thing a builder or office owner thinks of is calling an interior designer. After all, workspaces are for -- well -- working. Office buildings are just blocks of, well, offices. But what the builder or owner doesn't see the executive does. Once a real person sits down in an office, Lynn Smith often gets a call.
"The trend is to change the face of the everyday workplace, making it more reflective of the occupant's personality and taste," she notes. "After all, people are more productive, and work better, when the environment is comfortable."
Lynn points out that interior design starts, paradoxically, outside the home. She prefers to work with her clients from the time the blueprints are drawn. Initially, the challenge is one of spatial design. As Lynn talks with the client and learns to "walk a day in their life," opportunities exist for arranging the physical space in the home to cradle the family it will ultimately hold.
When Lynn competed for seven years in the Pueblo, Colorado Parade of Homes and Street of Dreams design competitions, her designs won "Best of Show" year after year. Even when competing in the Street of Dreams in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lynn won the "Best Interior Design Award".
A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lynn expanded her gift of design at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver. Her career of twenty-five years is richly embroidered with awards and achievements. Her talent and style has been honored an astonishing number of times for the prestigious MAME award for Major Achievement in Merchandising Excellence. Lynn has also been tapped as a judge of other designers in other states that were competing for MAME awards and recognition.
